Guv tells execs: ‘Don’t touch intel funds’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda has ordered Pampanga’s 22 municipal and two city mayors not to “touch” their intelligence funds.
Pineda’s call came in the midst of reported rising crime incidents in the province, with Pampanga as the “breeding ground” for all sorts of crime, as it sits right smack in the heart of Central Luzon.
During the emergency Peace and Order Council emergency meeting the governor convened Friday, a disappointed Pineda lambasted local chief executives, officials and members of the local peacekeeping committee why Pampanga has been put on the “crime limelight” lately.

Pineda is known to keep her “cool”, until the recent series of crimes like carjacking perpetrated by non-Kapampangans.
“Ang ganda ng image ng Pampanga. All of a sudden, tinawag tayong tapunan ng mga biktima at sentro ng krimen sa Central Luzon. Hindi ako papayag,” she said during the weekend press conference.
She warned all local executives not to “put their intelligence funds” elsewhere.
“Kayo ha, na mga mayor at local executives, baka saan ninyo lang dalhin ang mga intelligence funds ninyo. May problema tayo at alam ninyo ang ibig kong sabihin,” she stressed during the meeting, eyeing each and every mayor.
Intel funds take up as much as half of every municipality’s allocation, and the very source to fight crime, Pineda said in a later interview with Sun.Star Pampanga. (Jovi T. De Leon)
