Hundreds get medical assistance

ARAYAT — Some 500 indigent residents of Barangay Mesulo here received free medicines and check-up during Friday’s medical and dental mission spearheaded by this town’s local government unit (LGU).
Municipal Executive Secretary Ador Pineda told Sun.Star Pampanga that the monthly medical mission is sponsored by Mayor Luis “Chito” Espino and Vice Mayor Larry Trinidad, together with Municipal Council members in coordination with the Liga ng mga Barangay here.
Pineda said thousands of their indigent kabalens from several villages here have been treated through the medical mission, initiated by Espino in a bid to keep up with the mandate of Governor Lilia Pineda to provide medical assistance to the less fortunate members of the community.
“Isa lamang ang medical at dental mission na ito sa maraming programa ng ating butihin mayor, kasama si vice at ang mga konsehal ay nagpupunta sila sa mga barangay upang bigyang lunas ang sakit na dinadanas ng atin mga kabaryo,” Pineda said.
Pineda said that aside from the medical mission, the LGU also launched a feeding program for malnourished elementary pupils in several barangays where the medical and dental missions are taking place.
Mayor Espino, for his part, thanked Governor Pineda for providing much-needed medical equipment and medical assistance to the people of Arayat, saying his administration is 101 percent behind the governor’s mission and vision for the province.
Espino also said the LGU has distributed hundreds of PhilHealth cards to indigent constituents, as part of their basic health care services program.
For his part, Vice Mayor Larry Trinidad said the Municipal Council is very supportive of the plans and programs of the executive, saying it has approved the appropriation of a budget to be used in the monthly medical mission.
Trinidad said the medical and dental mission is a great help to their constituents especially in remote barangays, because they need not go to the Rural Health Units or the district hospital.
Present during Friday’s event were Councilors Pogi Mallari, Che Lumbang, Pines Alejandrino, Edith Kabigting, Rudy Caguiat, Jeffry Luriz, liga ng mga Barangay president Julio Espino, Barangay chairman Larry Espino, municipal and Rural Health Unit doctors, barangay health workers, barangay councilors and watchmen, members of the Philippine Army, police and other officials.
