Immigration personnel warned vs illegal operations

IMMIGRATION agents were warned against conducting unauthorized investigation or operations against a foreigner without a mission order from the office.
Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. warned the public against the activities of an extortion syndicate whose members have allegedly been going around and dropping his name to solicit funds from foreigners.
He added that some unscrupulous immigration agents are taking advantage by verifying foreigners’ questionable immigration status and end up mulcting them.
“I have never authorized or instructed anyone, either within or outside the bureau, to solicit and collect money on my behalf,” David said.
He appealed to foreigners who may have been victimized by the extortion syndicate to report to him the names of the fund solicitors through the immigration hotline 527-3248 and 309-7751 to 53, so necessary action could be taken against them.
