Japan wine imports grow in volume but shrink in value (Apr 21, 2010)

Clark Wine Center is pleased to relay interesting news and articles about wine to you on this web site.  We hope that this will enhance your wine shopping experience when you visit this wine shop in Pampanga Clark Freeport Zone.

2009 still wine imports in bottle to the Japanese market increased by 7% in volume, exceeding 1.2 million hl for the first time in the past 5 years. In value terms, the 2009 figure represented only 80% of the previous year’s total wine sales. The wine sales value loss was more pronounced on wine imports from European countries, due to the sharp depreciation of the euro.

The main wine suppliers to Japan are France, Italy, Chile and Spain. Spanish wine imports grew by 40% by volume, exceeding 100,000 hl for the first time.

For sparkling wines, the 2009 results have been somewhat negative for France, as total volume of wine declined by 27% while value fell by half. For Spanish sparkling wine, the numbers dropped by 12% compared to 2008, whereas the previous six years had been marked by steady growth which resulted in the accumulation of overstock of wine that had to be depleted in 2009.
