Lawmaker wants police numbers posted on PUVs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Provincial Board member Tarcicio “Tars” DC Halili is set to file an ordinance that will beef up Capitol’s war against the rising criminality in the province.
In a recent interview with Halili, he said the growing crime rate in the province is alarming, and drastic measures should be implemented to protect Kapampangans from all forms of crime.
Halili said in the proposed ordinance emergency and police contact numbers is a requirement that should be posted clearly in all public utility vehicles — jeepneys, buses to tricycles and even pedicabs.
He added that such a measure would be mandatory for all local government units.
“If we want people to feel safe and secure and that they have the police to depend on, then these police hotlines should be made known to them since most of our constituents have cellular phones and the authorities likewise have access numbers that can be reached through text or free calls,” added the legislator, who had first called for the adoption of the ID system in 2008.
“Drivers or operators of public utility vehicles need not worry about the expense on the stickers. Funding for these will be sourced out by the local government unit’s intelligence funds,” Halili concluded. (Jovi T. De Leon)
