Legislator seeks stop to ‘wet loads’
February 7, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Fourth district board member Ricardo Yabut said during the Provincial Board’s regular session that trucks, particularly those coming from quarry sites, must refrain from carrying wet loads.
Yabut described “wet loads” as sand and gravel freshly extracted from quarry sites, mostly soaked in water as they come from river beds.
“These wet loads are destructive to our roads and arteries,” said the former environment chair, now head of the PB’s committee on infrastructure.
“Even if we put up a lot of infrastructure and build as well as improve roads, it is futile if we allow such trucks to travel on main thoroughfares because of the heavy damage to our roads,” Yabut told Sun.Star Pampanga.
He said trucks with wet loads leave a trail of risks too, to other motorists.
“Ang hirap niyan eh kahit may permit, double ang risk sa daan,” Yabut quipped.
He said he is now poised to file a resolution, in cooperation with the august body and other agencies, to set controls on the “wet loads” issue.
