Local seafood traders prefer Bulacan market

MASANTOL — Officials of isolated villages here said that seafood traders prefer to do business at a market in Hagonoy, Bulacan due to the inaccessibility of their town proper.
Virginia Lacap, Barangay Balibago chief, said businessmen in their area find it more practical to transport their seafood produce to Hagonoy, as it would cost them double if they bring the same to their own market.
“Yung lugar kasi namin ay parang isla. Nakahiwalay ito sa Pampanga at kailangan pa ng bangka para makarating lamang sa kabayanan. Kung by land naman ang byahe, dadaan pa ng Calumpit, Bulacan para makarating sa sentro ng probinsiya,” Lacap added.
She said if the Provincial Government would just consider constructing a bridge that will traverse the Pampanga River, the seafood industry in their town could further help the province’s economy.
“Sa ngayon ay mas mabilis pang magdala ng kalakal sa Hagonoy, Bulacan kaysa sa palengke ng bayan,” she added.
“Sana matulungan din kami ng mga kinauukulan na magawa ang aming pangunahing kalsada. Malayo na kasi ang aming lugar at baku-bako pa ang kalsada. Kaya kung ibibiyahe ang maysakit papuntang hospital sa Pampanga, baka patay na bago makarating,” another official here said.
