Mayor hails peaceful barangays league elections

BACOLOR — Mayor Jose Maria Hizon hailed Tuesday’s Liga ng mga Barangay elections here as the most peaceful in this town’s history, and arguably in the whole third district as well.

Barangay Sta. Ines captain Marcelino Soto was hailed as the new Liga ng mga Barangay president.

Soto ran unopposed and is known to be the mayor’s choice for league president. Soto will sit as ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan here and will execute the functions of a regular town councilor and provide a strong voice as representative of the town’s various barangays.

Hizon said the election has been very peaceful and could be hailed as the most peaceful even in the whole district. He said the show of unity is good for the municipality in terms of implementing development programs. “We see a better working relationship with the barangay captains under the leadership of Soto,” Hizon said.

Hizon urged Soto to lead barangay leaders in the campaign against environmental degradation by engaging in composting and waste segregation. He also called on them to intensify their anti-drug campaigns.

Hizon also told barangay leaders to work to promote the bayanihan spirit (communal unity) and volunteerism through their partnerships with various NGOs, socio-civic groups and others. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
