‘Operation Goodwill’ brings holiday cheer to Angeles kids

ANGELES CITY — Personnel from the III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) on Tuesday distributed toys, clothes, and household items at the Bahay Bata Children’s Home in Barangay Cauayan this city.
According to US Marine Brigadier General Mark Brilakis, Deputy Commanding General of the III MEF, the activity is part of their “Operation Goodwill” this Holiday Season.
The donated goods, Brilakis said, were provided by the US military community in Okinawa, Japan.
“The outreach will supplement humanitarian assistance provided in response to Typhoon Juan,” he further said.
The III MEF, he added, will also be conducting the same activity at the Isabela Provincial Capitol Complex in Ilagan, Isabela on Thursday, December 16, from 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.; and at the Isabela School for the Blind in Cauayan City also in Isabela on Friday, December 17, at 9 a.m.
According to Brilakis, “Operation Goodwill” started in 2003 as a gesture of friendship by US personnel and their families based in Okinawa to share the holiday spirit of giving with children and their families in the Philippines.
“Since 2003, III MEF has delivered thousands of pounds of toys and supplies to Filipino children during the Christmas holiday season,” he said.
