PAL plane lands safely in Los Angeles despite flat tire

FLAT tire was the reason why a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight bound for Los Angeles requested emergency landing at Tom Bradley International, California’s busiest airport.
This clarification was issued by the Lucio Tan-led airline on Saturday, hours after the incident. The company also made the same announcement at its Facebook page at around the same time.
“PAL flight PR102, carrying 418 passengers, landed safely at the Los Angeles International Airport around 12:12 p.m. (Manila time) despite one flat tire. All passengers and crew are safe,” the company said in its Facebook page.
After pilots flew by the Los Angeles airport’s control tower to confirm suspicion of the busted tire, they “requested for an emergency landing,” the company added.
The request was approved after it was “determined that only one of the 16 tires of the B747-400 was busted,” the airline said.
“This is contrary to earlier reports by some news networks in Los Angeles that the plane was suffering from landing gear problems,” it added.
After thorough inspection and replacement of the busted tire, the B747-400 aircraft is back into regular service and is scheduled to fly back non-stop to Manila (flight PR103) with some delay. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
