Palace to allow Arroyo to go abroad

MALACANANG said Tuesday that it will allow former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to leave the country and seek medical treatment abroad once she completes requirements needed by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said all they are asking from the camp of Arroyo is to fully comply with conditions of the DOJ.
“Assuming that they comply. ‘Yun lang naman po ‘yung hinihingi natin. Ang ayaw lang po natin dito is maakusahan po tayo na nagbibigay po tayo ng special treatment,” she said.
“They’re blaming the DOJ for the delay in the issuance of the travel clearance, but I just checked with the Department of Justice at mayroon silang mga ni-request na documentary requirements from the lawyer of Mrs. Arroyo and so far hindi pa daw po naisu-submit,” she added.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Arroyo’s camp has to complete the necessary requirements before her office can issue an allow departure order (ADO).
The department is requesting the medical abstract of the former President, who has undergone several operations in neck and spine.
Arroyo was placed on the Immigration watch list in relation to plunder cases filed against her.
Arroyo’s lawyer, Raul Lambino told Sun.Star in a text message that the ex-President has “already submitted all they are asking for.”
Valte, meanwhile, defended the decision of the government joint panel to issue subpoenas to Arroyo and husband Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo in connection to supposed electoral sabotage in 2007.
She said the Commission on Elections is not being influenced by Malacanang on its decisions.
“If we want to be vindictive or vendetta lang po talaga ‘yung ating hinahabol ay siguro ho ‘nung unang araw pa lang ng Pangulo ay dapat pinakasuhan na or sinasabi nilang dapat pinakulong na.
