Pamintuan in global anti-human trafficking confab
November 30, 2010
ANGELES CITY — Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan is now in The Hague to represent the country’s League of Cities of the Philippines in the international conference on Anti-Human Trafficking.
Pamintuan said the Swiss-sponsored conference would feature lecture papers on anti-trafficking initiatives, problems and trends all across the world.
The event, he added, will also feature discussions on possible areas of cooperation on a united approach against human trafficking.
“I will be presenting a paper on our initiatives against human trafficking and we also hope that we could learn from the accomplishments of other countries on their efforts against human trafficking,” Pamintuan said.
He said Councilor Maricel Morales will also be attending the said conference as representative of the City Council.
Morales, chairman of the City Council committee on women concerns, is expected to streamline renewed efforts against human trafficking.
“This conference will greatly add to our efforts in combating human trafficking. We hope to learn a lot from it and to cascade what we have learned in the local level,” Pamintuan said.
The mayor also issued earlier numerous memoranda and orders, including Executive Order 13 on July 22 creating the Angeles City Task Force against Human Trafficking.
The city police were tasked to prepare an operation relative to the objectives of the task force. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
