Pedicabs as livelihood for Northville indigent pupils
March 15, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Northville 14 Elementary School signed Monday a partnership agreement with Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. on the operation of five pedicabs here to generate income for the school’s indigent pupils.
Gonzales and Northville 14 officer-in-charge Ariel Garcia signed the agreement before hundreds of students of the school.

Gonzales was accompanied by his wife Beth, who earlier led the feeding of 300 pupils of the said school under the “Go Northville Kids Program.”
The agreement aims to provide a source of income for pupils of the school who would like to operate the pedicabs during their free time. The program was conceptualized to help Northville 14 pupils earn extra money to help in their family and contribute to the other expenses they have at school.
The pedicabs will be managed by the school and will cater to teachers and people visiting Northville.
“The program aims to give Northville families a chance to earn a living. The pedicabs may be operated by the children or their parents but will be strictly supervised by the school so that the earnings will be put into proper use,” Gonzales told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Northville 14 is a relocation site for residents affected by the ongoing Philippine National Railways project. The relocation started in 2009.
At present, there are some 3,935 families at the site, while 99 families are awaiting relocation.
Most families at Northville, Gonzales noted, are relatively poor. Unemployment, he added, is seen as one of the major problems in the community that has shown signs of growth. At present, there are more than 1,000 pupils here.
Gonzales said there will be five additional pedicabs to be given to indigent families here to help them earn a living.
Gonzales is also urging residents to join in various job training seminars offered by his district office, in order to acquire skills needed for skilled employment in the province or
