December 3, 2010
ANGELES CITY — A college professor who was accused of raping his student several times was reportedly arrested in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last November 26.
Sun.Star learned that Arnel Atienza Ocampo, 50, married, a former professor of Holy Angel University (HAU) is now under the custody of Jeddah authorities.
On February 13, 2009, Ocampo was charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) with 32 counts of rape for allegedly abusing a 16-year-old student.
The DOJ issued a hold departure against the suspect on March 4, 2009.
After receiving a copy of Ocampo’s counter-affidavit from the DOJ, the HAU management on March 27, 2009 dismissed Ocampo.
Right after the last preliminary hearing at the DOJ on March 28, 2009, Ocampo managed to migrate to Saudi Arabia.
In November 2009, the DOJ indicted Ocampo for 32 counts of rape. Five arrest warrants, two of which are non-bailable, were issued by the Regional Trial Court against the suspect.
The National Bureau of Investigation and International Police (Interpol) reportedly placed on “red notice” on the suspect who became wanted and declared fugitive.
On April 28, 2010, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reportedly cancelled Ocampo’s passport making him an undocumented alien in Jeddah.
The Philippine government, through DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima and the DFA, requested Jeddah authorities to arrest Ocampo, who is now waiting to be turned over to the NBI for his immediate deportation.(Reynaldo G. Navales)
