Public told: Brace for heavy traffic at NLEx, SCTEx

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The volume of vehicular traffic going to the northern provinces of Luzon is expected to get heavy starting Friday, operators of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) said Thursday.
Benigno Valles, senior manager for corporate communications of the Tollways Management Corporation (TMC), said they are expecting traffic volume going to Northern Luzon to dramatically increase from Friday to Sunday, October 28 to 30, due to the big influx of motorists going home for All Saints’ Day observance.
“In spite of its increased volume for three days, traffic is expected to be manageable. It has been noticed in last year’s traffic count that some motorists decided to stay longer in their home provinces. They may do the same this year. Traffic volume last year was still high in the immediate weekend after All Saints’ Day,” Valles said, adding the expected increase of traffic volume for the four-day “Undas” break is approximately 10 percent.
In preparation, he said NLEx toll operations will beef up its manpower at the Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue and Dau Toll Plazas on October 28 to 30 to hasten throughput of northbound motorists.
Ambulant tellers will be on standby at Balintawak and Mindanao Toll Plazas. Ambulant tellers, spare toll booths and provision for counter flow will be set up at the Dau Toll Plaza.
At SCTEx, Valles said traffic buildup going to the provinces is expected at Tarlac Exit, San Miguel Exit and Tipo Exit starting Friday.
He said manual and counter flow lanes will be placed at San Miguel and Tarlac Exit, respectively, to accommodate the high volume of traffic.
In Manila, he said traffic buildup is expected on November 1, 2 and 3, at Mabalacat Interchange of SCTEx.
Motorists can expect sufficient number of personnel and equipment to minimize delay at the plaza and maintain the best level of service possible. There will be manual toll booths ready to be set up at Mabalacat Toll Plaza, Valles added.
He said the Bocaue toll plaza will also have ambulant tellers on November 1, 2 and 3 and will open additional manual lanes in anticipation of the heavy volume of vehicles going back to Manila during these dates.
In both NLEx and SCTEx, motorists’ assistance will be provided by all Toll Service Facilities (TSF) or gas stations.
At SCTEx, additional two tents will be set up going to Tipo and Tarlac to provide further assistance to motorists.
For assistance and inquiries, motorists are advised to call the NLEx hotline (02) 580-8910, (02) 35000 or (0920) 96-SCTEX (72839) for SCTEx.
These hotlines are available 24 hours a day, Valles said.
