Public told to take extra care on Holy Week
A MALACANANG official on Sunday reminded the public to take extra care while spending the Holy Week following a recent car accident that killed teen actor AJ Perez.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte extended condolences to the family of Perez, for the actor’s untimely death Sunday morning in a vehicular mishap in Tarlac.
“We heard the sad news about the teen actor and we send our condolences to those he left,” the Palace official said.
“We would like to remind everyone to take extra care while driving and always make sure that your vehicles are in good condition before traveling,” she added.
Perez, who was a talent of ABS-CBN, was reportedly on his way to Manila from a show in Dagupan City, Pangasinan when the accident happened along McArthur Highway.
The 18-year-old actor was rushed to the nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
His five companions, including his father, sustained injuries in the crash.
Amid expected Lenten exodus, Valte reminded public transportation operators to make sure of the safety of all commuters and travelers.
“Operators should ensure that all public vehicles are road worthy and sea worthy,” she said.
She, meanwhile, asked the public to be patient in subjecting themselves to inspections as safety procedures.
“Let us cooperate with our authorities this is also for everyone’s safety,” she said.
She noted that the government and several private sectors have set up road assistance such as checkpoints and pit stops in case of emergency.
She also advised the public to take down emergency numbers, especially for those who will be traveling for long hours. (Sunnex)
