Students get financial assistance

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Board Member Nestor Tolentino extended Thursday educational financial assistance to 43 college students from the fourth district as part of the Capitol’s program to help the needy but deserving youth make it through college.
The students received P10,000 cash each, half of which was for the past semester.
“We apologize for the delay of the assistance supposedly for last semester. But the Provincial Government is making it up because we understand your predicament na marami na sa inyo ang umutang para sa tuition ninyo,” Tolentino told the students gathered at the Provincial Board Session Hall Thursday afternoon.
Tolentino clarified that the aid was not a form of scholarship grant.
“This is not a scholarship but merely financial assistance because we just want to augment whatever the cost of your tuition as this varies from college to college,” he said.
He said Governor Lilia Pineda is keen on the Capitol’s education program for the less fortunate.
“Our governor is very much concerned about your education and we are hoping that you could finish your studies and later on move ahead for a more decent life and help your respective families as well,” Tolentino said.
Among those who thanked the lawmaker for the assistance were Dean’s Listers Rochelle Bonus from Minalin and Abigail Cano of Apalit.
Tolentino urged the students to study hard and maintain the required 83 percent average needed to get the financial aid.
