Tax bureau nets P12-B collection

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Central Luzon (BIR-3) announced Wednesday its P12.23 billion tax revenues collection from January and November this year with 40 percent of the collection coming from Pampanga alone.

BIR Regional Director Romulo Aguila Jr. said their office had exceeded their 2010 goal of P11.7 million by some 11.79 percent. This in turn registers a P1.4 billion in excess versus the collection goal for 2010.

Aguila said the streak of exceeding tax collection targets for five consecutive months started when the BIR collected an average of P1 billion.

“This is an obvious success that the BIR can be truly proud of. We are very thankful for the cooperation of the business community and the private sector for working hand-in-hand with us. This achievement in our collection is the best Christmas gift they can give us,” Aguila said, adding that the current collection is one of the biggest among the regions.

The success was attributed to the implementation of the BIR’s Strategy Map and “Making the Public Know.”

The Strategy Map includes three priority areas, 16 programs, 108 activities, and ten strategies, among others. The BIR’s priority areas include people improvement, process improvement, and taxpayer interaction improvement.

As part of enhanced tax collection strategy, Aguila said his office has intensified public awareness campaigns such as the Lifestyle check, Run After Tax Evader (RATE), Oplan Kandado, Operation RIP, and the Humingi ng Resibo Program.

“We are also set to collect some P1.2 Billion this December and we hope to increase our excess by P2.6 billion,” Aguila said, stressing that the BIR will not rest on its laurels and will continue to strive to further improve collections in the region.

Aguila said that the agency is also intensifying linkages with the government and business sectors to ensure the full implementation of government programs.
