Women’s group gives goods to villagers
December 30, 2010
MABALACAT – The Mabalacat Women’s League (MWL) organized a gift-giving project that benefited some 400 indigent families here.
Nina Manipon, wife of Mayor Marino Morales, together with MWL President Adelaida Santos, led the distribution of at least P300,000 worth of rice and grocery items to families in the 27 villages here.
The MWL’s outreach program is aimed at empowering women in this first-class municipality, said Manipon. The project was fully supported by Governor Lilia Pineda, she added.
Manipon is a member and adviser of the 2,000-strong group formed last year.
“It’s the time of year when we should give to make people happy. The MWL’s focus, though, is teaching women to become more productive to help the padre de familia give quality life to the family,” Manipon said in a statement.
Since last year, the MWL has been pushing for the development of women by organizing livelihood programs.
“We have envisioned women to play a vital role in the shaping of a progressive nation,” said Santos, who is also a member of the Mabalacat Water District (MWD) board.
Manipon, for her part, said, “This is one way of helping people fight poverty.”
“If the mother at home is earning while taking care of the children, then it’s good-bye time to poverty,” she said in vernacular. (Rhay Navales)
